Renaissance Malarchi Special School is a non-profit educational institution in Kalamavur Village, Pudukkottai District, Tamil Nadu, operated by the Renaissance Trust. It provides education, care, and rehabilitation for intellectually challenged, autistic, and multiply disabled children from economically disadvantaged families.
Mission and Purpose
Established under the Renaissance Trust’s social-welfare wing, the school aims to ensure equality, dignity, and social inclusion for children with developmental disabilities. It emphasizes love, protection, and specialized instruction delivered by trained educators and therapists to promote each child’s independence and participation in society.
Educational and Care Programs
The residential school currently serves dozens of intellectually challenged students, including several orphans. Programs include individualized learning plans, speech therapy, physiotherapy, yoga, crafts, and cultural and sports activities. Students are grouped by ability levels to receive customized instruction in daily living skills, communication, and vocational training. Regular parent-teacher meetings track progress and extend learning to the home environment.
Community Role and Recognition
Located along the Trichy–Pudukkottai Road near Keeranur, the facility functions as the district’s only dedicated center for intellectually challenged children. It also operates as a resource hub advocating for equal rights and opportunities for persons with disabilities. The Renaissance Trust, founded in 1983, has received recognition from the Government of Tamil Nadu for its long-term development work across Pudukkottai District.
Philanthropy and Support
Managed by philanthropist P. Mahalingam and a volunteer team, Renaissance Malarchi Special School sustains its programs through charitable donations and government aid. Contributions qualify for tax exemption under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, reflecting the institution’s certified charitable status.
